🌿 Why Are Your Leaves Turning Yellow? Let’s Talk, Boo!
Okay.
So first of all,breathe.
A yellow leaf does not mean your plant hates you, she’s communicating with you. Like, “hey sis, something is off”.
1. Overwatering (the classic.)
If your leaf is turning yellow and feeling kinda soft, droopy, or “melty”,
she’s drowning a little.
How to fix:
• Let the soil dry completely before watering again
• Make sure your pot has drainage holes
• Switch to a chunkier, airy soil mix so roots can breathe
This isn’t neglect , it’s boundaries.
2. Underwatering (the other classic.)
If the leaf is yellow but giving crispy?
Yeah, she’s thirsty.
How to fix:
• Water more consistently
• Try bottom watering to fully rehydrate the roots
• And like… drink water too, love. Hydration is community work.
3. Not Enough Light
If she’s pale yellow and stretching toward the window like she’s reaching for Jesus, she just needs more light.
How to fix:
• Move her closer to a bright, indirect light source
• East-facing windows are the girls
• Artificial grow lights count. No shame.
4. Mineral Build-Up (hard water storyline)
Yellow leaf + brown tips = mineral or fertilizer overload.
How to fix:
• Flush the soil with distilled or filtered water
• Let tap water sit overnight before using
• Fertilize lightly. She’s sensitive.
5. Change / Stress (yes, she has feelings.)
Repotting, moving, drafts, low humidity, don’t panic, she’s in her processing era.
How to fix:
• Keep conditions consistent
• Don’t move her around too much
• Humidity is literally a hug
Sometimes a leaf yellows because the plant is growing new roots.
Final Word
Yellow leaves are not failure.
They’re a conversation.
You’re learning her.
She’s learning you.
And both of y’all deserve grace while you grow.
